Two new suspects in Nijswiller case
The 59-year-old man from Nijswiller who was arrested in late October on suspicion of murdering a 45-year-old Chinese woman was released yesterday. Two others, a man and a woman of Chinese descent, have now been arrested in connection with the violent death of their compatriot.
According to press judge A. Rogier, it is too early to state that the man from Nijswiller is beyond any suspicion: "You can't say that until the investigation is complete." The manner in which the victim was killed has not been disclosed. Her remains were found in a cornfield by a harvesting farmer.
Both new suspects are staying in our country illegally, their lawyers say. The man was arrested a week ago in Rotterdam and remanded in custody for 10 days. The female suspect, who has been in the Netherlands for several years, was arrested Tuesday and will be arraigned today. According to her lawyer S. Weening, she lived in the 59-year-old man's house in Nijswiller. She worked as a prostitute. According to Weening, both new suspects are each other's partners.
