The Public Prosecutor's Office is demanding 40 months in prison, 12 of which are suspended, against a 34-year-old man from Geleen.
This was announced Wednesday in the Maastricht District Court. In addition to the prison sentence, the prosecution believes the man should receive mandatory treatment to get rid of his alcohol addiction, a five-year driving ban and pay more than 1,700 euros in damages.
Knocking over officers
The man from Geleen drove his car on the A2 near Born in early March. According to the prosecution, he was allegedly drunk and tried to run over two police officers. "It was pure luck and due to the skill of the officers that a collision was prevented," the prosecutor said. "The suspect drove aggressively into the officers." The man is also suspected of not cooperating with the breath test.
