The main suspect in the so-called sewer and trunk murder case has been given a 30-year sentence on appeal. This appeared Wednesday before the court of appeal in Leeuwarden.
The man allegedly shot René Karamatali of Almere in 2008 and put the body in a sewer drain. He is also suspected of the murder of Brian Stein in the same year. The Amsterdam man was found dead in the trunk of a car. The prime suspect was already sentenced to 30 years in prison in 2010. He appealed that sentence.
A co-defendant was also sentenced to 30 years by the prosecution. The court earlier sentenced him to 18 years. He is said to be the principal in the killings. The suspect claims to have been extorted by Karamatali and Stein.
A female co-defendant heard 14 years against her. She was previously sentenced to the same sentence. She was allegedly co-responsible for making the Almeerder's body disappear.
